Functional Movement

If you have pain regularly, whether from a repetitive activity or injury, movement therapy can help. We go beyond treating a symptom to find the underlying issue bringing balance and stability back into the body.

Clients reach goals they didn’t feel were possible:

  • Moving through daily life pain free
  • Improving balance, stability, and strength
  • Getting back to the activities they love

Functional movement starts with stability at our center. Well-coordinated deep core muscles provide a stable base for movement and generating power. Without a solid center of stability, the body braces, or tenses in other areas to create it. The body begins to compensate using one muscle to do the work of another. Simply put, the body borrows from one area to help another typically when strength or mobility is not sufficient. Compensation isn’t necessarily bad, but overtime it often leads to muscle imbalances causing pain.

Common areas of pain from compensatory movement patterns are:

• Back Pain or Herniated discs • Frozen Shoulder • Knee Pain

• Neck Tension • Sciatica • Tennis or Golfer’s Elbow

• Hip Pain or Tightness • Jaw Tension/TMJ

Correcting compensations improves our movement. We specialize in teaching clients how to grow awareness for their movement patterns. Through a functional movement assessment and muscle testing we identify the root cause of the issue. From there, exercises are used to retrain the relationship between muscles. Clients learn to bring balance back into their body by quieting compensating muscles and activating the muscles designed for an intended movement.

Hear what clients say:

“After suffering from tennis elbow for nearly a year, I was back to playing tennis after a month!” ~ Stef

“I am continually amazed at the exercise recommendations that helped me reach my goals.” ~ Linda

“Julie is an amazing. She has taught me how to move without pain!” ~ Carla

"My shoulder had gotten so tight and painful I couldn't throw the ball for the dog. After working with Julie it feels great!" ~ Keith

Resigning to living in pain is not the answer. Age doesn't equal having to give up the activities you love. Compensation in our movements happen. We simply need to change it back.

"Julie is a wonderful instructor. She helped me get back on the tennis court. With my herniated L4-L5 disc, she taught me the proper way to use my core and other muscles instead of my back. Her explanations are very clear and have made a significant impact on my entire body. Now my back is totally fine thanks to your teaching and knowledge!"

~ Julie
